HOSPITAL SERVICES
It is a Requirement of the Standard AS/NZS 3003.2003 For Electrical Installations. – Patients Areas of Hospitals, Medical and Dental Practices And Dialyzing Locations that all Patient Treatment Areas ie: 
Physio Therapy Rooms, Dental Practices, Podiatry Rooms etc. be upgraded to Body Protected Electrical Areas thus Protecting your Staff and Patients from Electrical Shock.
Body Protection means basically that every Power Point needs to be Protected by 10 milli amp. R.C.D’S or a Safety Switch which is the same as in most Houses but more sensitive to Earth Leakage Currents. This includes Dental Chairs and X-ray Machines.
Although there is no Requirements in AS/NZS 3000 or AS/NZS 3003 or to our knowledge in any State Regulations that Electrical Installations must be brought into Compliance when a New Edition of either Standard is Published.
The question is whether a Hospital, Medical Practice or Dentist etc: has a Duty of Care regarding Compliance with the new Safety Standards. Several of our Clients are moving in the Direction of Upgrading these Areas to the Body Protection as a matter of Care and safety to their Patients.
Another Requirement of the Standard is that if there is to be any Electrical Work done in the Patient Treatment Area ie: extra Power Points. This Work is not to be done unless the Area is upgraded to Body Protection which is not commonly known by Electricians.
After the Patient Area is Upgraded it needs to be inspected by a Bio Medical Inspector and a Certificate of Electrical Safety supplied, This Work is Prescribed Work.
Some of our Clients that we are Upgrading are Peninsula Health (Frankston Hospital, Rosebud Hospital and several Nursing Homes and Rehabilitation Centres.) Peninsula Community Health Services and some Private Clients.
Another form of Body Protection is
Cardiac Protected Areas, which is mainly used
in Operating Theatres and Intensive Care Units.
